I was first introduced to Reiki in an unusual setting. In the fall of 2011, in Lincoln Nebraska, I attended a Psychic Party where I met Jorianne the Coffee Psychic. She was visiting from Chicago, doing her annual ghost hunting for Halloween... She told me Reiki was my life’s mission. At the time, I thought Reiki was a genre of music – I had a couple of CDs I used for meditation. In fact, Jorianne’s daughter Terry Duhlin was in town with her and she was a Reiki Master Teacher. I booked a session with her the next day, I loved my experience, and the next time she was in town I embarked on learning Reiki. Each time Jorianne visited Lincoln with her daughter Terry, I would level up until I reached the level of Karuna Reiki. Over the years, I developed my own Reiki practice, the first Reiki Share Circles in Lincoln, NE, and even an annual Metaphysical Fair. I did not do this alone – I had an amazing circle of soul sisters, who each played their part and continue to support me even now when I am no longer in Nebraska. When my husband and I moved to the Portland area in 2017, I continued my practice by doing private sessions with people, but did not teach again until 2023 when I opened The Way Home Shop. Part of having the shop was due to my mission to resume teaching Reiki and holding Reiki Share Circles. Each time we have a Reiki Share, I am reminded of all the healing power and magic it holds. When I teach Reiki, I am filled with joy and love, as I know the limitless possibilities my students hold in their hands when I give them their certificates. Jorianne was right – Reiki has become my life’s mission.
